Brand Story: Te Whare Haka o Tainui

Designed by Te Marino Innovations c. 2025.

Our Logo: A Visual Story

This design is a living story of our whakapapa and unity, reflecting the continuous evolution of kapa haka within Tainui. Every element is a testament to those who came before, those who stand today, and those who are yet to rise.

The Design & Its Meaning

The logo is crafted to tell a story of interconnectedness, growth, and the enduring spirit of haka.

  • The Kōiri: These flowing patterns are a stylised representation of the four porotaka (kin groups) of Tainui Waka. Their symmetrical lines symbolise the grace and strength of haka, honouring the deep roots that bind our people together.

  • The Poutama: At the heart of the design, the ascending poutama pattern signifies the growth and progression of kapa haka across the generations. Each tier represents a distinct stage in the journey of learning and leadership, speaking to the passing down of knowledge, discipline, and identity.

The Colors

Our chosen color palette is a visual expression of wānanga, whakapapa, and wairua. Each hue is deliberately chosen to ground Te Whare Haka o Tainui in its purpose.

  • The Deep, Earthy Tone: This colour reflects the strength of our whenua and the unwavering presence of our tūpuna (ancestors), representing the foundation of our history.

  • The Softer Hue: This tone carries the warmth of our whānau and the interwoven layers of memory and learning passed down through generations.

Together, these elements are a call to strengthen the foundations of haka, guided by the wisdom of the past, the passion of the present, and the promise of the future.
